captain of india Rohit Sharma completed 12 years with him IPL Franchise Mumbai Indians. The star Indian batsman was bought by MI in the first IPL mega auction in 2011. On completing another year with the most successful franchise in the Indian cash-rich league, Sharma thanked the team management and the fans.
“I can’t believe it’s been 12 years at Mumbai Indians. It’s been an extremely exciting and emotional journey for me. We’ve achieved so much with the veterans, the youngsters and our paltan together. Mumbai Indians is my family and I I would like to thank my fellow players, fans and management for all the love. Looking forward to creating many more memories and spreading more smiles for our Paltan,” Sharma said in an official statement by the franchise.
Sharma was bought by MI on 8 January 2011 for USD 2 million in a three-way bid involving Punjab Kings and Deccan Chargers. Sharma has been the cornerstone of the Mumbai franchise and has helped them win a record 5 IPL titles as captain. The franchise also issued a statement and praised their captain fiercely. “From a promising youngster to a star player, from captain to hitman avatar, to leader’s persona! These 12 years almost feel like an era. Rohit Sharma has grown up, Mumbai Indians have grown up, we, Paltan, Have grown up,” Mi wrote in her statement.
“On January 8, 2011, in Bengaluru, in the first mega auction since the league began, it was between 12:18 PM and 12:24 PM that drama unfolded. Rohit’s name came out of the sack, Punjab, Deccan The Chargers and MI (duh!), were caught in a three-way fight. Oh there was no way we could stop. We had to bring home the local boy. And so in the end, for USD 20 million (we bought him) ,” the franchisee added.
MI had never won the IPL title before 2013 and the parade of victories started in 2013. After this the franchise won 4 more titles (2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020). He has also helped the team win 2 Champions League titles. However, MI have failed to make it to the playoffs the last two times and the Blue Army would be looking to bring home the cup in 2023.
“The victory parade started in 2013 and after that we went on winning title after title. This is Rohit’s 13th year. There is something in this number. As soon as we enter it, the feeling all around is that Something special is just around the corner. Come on Rohit, it’s time to bring home #6.
