Sharma was bought by MI on 8 January 2011 for USD 2 million in a three-way bid involving Punjab Kings and Deccan Chargers. Sharma has been the cornerstone of the Mumbai franchise and has helped them win a record 5 IPL titles as captain. The franchise also issued a statement and praised their captain fiercely. “From a promising youngster to a star player, from captain to hitman avatar, to leader’s persona! These 12 years almost feel like an era. Rohit Sharma has grown up, Mumbai Indians have grown up, we, Paltan, Have grown up,” Mi wrote in her statement.
