The BCCI’s selection committee is reportedly set to meet later this week to finalize the Indian squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, starting November 17. The next few days are going to be very important for the Indian men’s cricket team. A head coach and a new T20I captain.

Current T20I captain Virat Kohli and current head coach Ravi Shastri have both announced that they will step down from their respective roles after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates.

In all likelihood, Rohit Sharma, the current limited-overs vice-captain, will play the role of Kohli, while the great Rahul Dravid could play the head coach.

However, with most of India’s senior cricketers inside the bio-bubble since April this year, starting with the first leg of IPL 2021 in the country, many of them, including Rohit and Kohli, may be rested. India will host New Zealand for a series of three T20Is and two Test matches.

To interview candidates for the role of head coach, however, the BCCI will have to appoint a Cricket Advisory Committee as its president Madan Lal turns 70. The other two members of the committee, RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik, will, however, continue in their roles.

Meanwhile, India is gearing up for its third match of the T20 World Cup where it will play Afghanistan on Wednesday. The Kohli-led side is struggling after losing the opening two matches against Pakistan and New Zealand.

Theoretically, the 2007 champions are still in contention for the semi-finals, with expectations dependent on how the other teams perform in their group apart from winning big in their remaining three matches.
