He further said that it is necessary to stay together to take the BJP forward. “D’Souza neither has the support of any individual nor is he contesting as someone’s candidate, like some candidates in Mapusa. The people of Mapusa, who have been proven to have self-respect and dignity, have to understand what is right for their future,” he said.
“We will also come to Mapusa to support D’Souza, wherever needed,” Khunte said. “People should wisely vote for a self-made person and not a candidate who wants to contest the election on the goodwill of another MLA to lobby.”
D’Souza won the 2019 by-election which was necessitated due to the death of his father Francis, the previous MLA. He then got a BJP ticket and retained the seat for the party.
Khaunte said he would ensure D’Souza wins by a “big margin”.
Reacting to the Together for Bardez platform promoted by Lobo, Khunte said, “We are here together for Goa, what do you mean together for Bardez? It can’t be like this together. It is not right to divide people and say ‘together’. Leaving the party and saying ‘together’ is not right and no one will listen to these people. We will work together for Goa.
Mandrekar said that when he learned that Joshua was launching his election campaign, he “came running” to participate. “We will provide whatever support Joshua needs,” Mandrekar said.
