Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza to launch Cincinnati campaign in doubles

India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig will open their campaign against the French-Serbian pair of Fabrice Martin and Filip Kranjinovic in the Cincinnati Masters men’s doubles draw on Tuesday.

The Bopanna-Dodig pair reached the doubles quarter-finals of the ATP event in Toronto last week after losing 4-6, 6-3 to third seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. [10-4] $3,487,915 in the event.

If Bopanna and Dodig progress to Cincinnati, they will face a tough test in the second round against third-seeded Juan Sebastian Cabal, world number nine, and Robert Farah, world number seven. The final will take place on Sunday 22 August.

This week, Bopanna-Dodig will be hoping to improve his performance in Toronto and make his way to the summit.

Meanwhile, Sania Mirza will also play in the women’s doubles pairing of Tunisia’s Ons Jaboor at the Cincinnati Masters.

In doubles, former world number one Sania will be participating in her first event after the Tokyo Olympics where she teamed up with Ankita Raina and lost to Ukraine’s Nadia Kichenok and Lidumila Kichenok in the opening round.

On Tuesday, Sania and Ons will take on Russia’s Veronika Kudermatova and Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the first round.
