Infosys-Sunak Link: UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murthy, was in trouble again on Monday as she lost nearly Rs 500 crore in just one minute after the shares of Infosys Ltd, the company built by her father, plunged the most in the last one year. The damage is done.

Infosys Limited is an Indian multinational information technology company that provides business consulting, information technology and outsourcing services. The company is the brainchild of Akshata’s father, Nagavara Ramarao Narayan Murthy.

According to reports, he holds a 0.94% stake in the firm – which means over £450 million. Shares declined following its guidance, which painted a negative outlook for India’s technology sector. It had closed down 9.4% on Monday. This was believed to be the biggest decline since March 2020.

what went wrong?

It is to be noted that no illegal or wrongdoing was done by Akashta or her father’s company. It is the British economy and people who are facing the worst economic crisis. Ever since the Covid pandemic hit the country, Britons have been grappling with the cost of living crisis.

Early last year, Murthy landed herself in the same trouble after it was revealed that she held non-domicile status and was not paying UK tax on overseas earnings. Later, BBC It was then reported that Murthy had saved £2.1 million a year through his “non-dome” status.

Murthy’s wealth has been troubling Sunak for the past one year

Although she clarified that her arrangement was completely legal and ended up paying British taxes on those earnings, it caused trouble for her husband who was in the running for UK PM last year.

Sunak came under severe criticism from rival candidate Liz Truss, who accused him and his wife of hiding collective assets. Last year, expensive “cups of tea” also sparked a major controversy in UK politics. Many compared that the cost of crockery could last a family of five.

Furthermore, it was reported that Infosys continued to operate in Russia despite sanctions imposed by Weston aimed at punishing Moscow. During an election campaign last year, Sunak said he had nothing to do with Infosys, but that hasn’t deterred Sunak’s wealthy image in the UK.

In addition, Daniel Greenberg, Britain’s parliamentary commissioner for standards, launched an investigation on Monday into whether the UK PM failed to declare a relevant interest relating to a minority stake owned by his wife. The complaint claimed that Sunak did not disclose that his wife owned a stake in Koru Kids, which registers childminders.

Although Downing Street assured that it would co-operate with the investigation and said, “We are pleased to assist the Commissioner in clarifying how this has been transparently declared as a ministerial interest”, it is believed That development could bring hardship for both the UK PM and his wife.
