In the meeting, several opposition parties including Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena raised the issue of lack of vaccination in their respective states.

According to sources, the Prime Minister said that there is no need to panic or create fear on the issue of vaccines. Vaccines are available in sufficient numbers, the PM said, adding that six more vaccines are in various stages of approval; That would be enough to vaccinate most of India’s population.

Modi, however, expressed concern over the rising number of cases in the country, especially where people were vaccinated with both their doses and are still getting infected, sources said. He said that he reiterated the urgent need to ensure adherence to the COVID-protocol and not let the guard down.

Sources said that the PM also expressed his disappointment over the kind of politics played on the pandemic and appealed to all political parties to refrain from it.

Modi urged them to reach out to the masses and make sure to do away with any hesitation of vaccination, a sentiment that still exists, especially in rural and other remote areas.

Sources said the Biju Janata Dal asked the PM to provide 95% of the vaccine for government hospitals, as the consumption of vaccines was slow in private hospitals. Other parties also requested the government to ensure that Covaxin received international approval, as many citizens, including professionals and students, wanted to travel abroad, but could not do so because the jab is not recognized by many countries.

Oxygen plant in every district: PM

The Prime Minister spoke about the efforts being made to ensure that one oxygen plant is set up in each district across the country. He told the leaders about the growing pace of India’s vaccination program and how it took about 85 days to deliver the first 100 million doses, while the last 100 million doses took 24 days.

He told the leaders that the daily completion figures show an average of over 1.5 crore vaccines administered at the end of the day across the country.

Modi also stressed on the need for proper planning of vaccination campaign at the district level based on the enhanced availability indicated by the central government to ensure that people do not face any inconvenience.

The Prime Minister said that it is a matter of concern that a large number of health workers and frontline workers are yet to get their vaccine even six months after the vaccination campaign started in India, adding that states need to be more proactive towards it. need to be.
