After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and the legal matters that followed, the actress remained silent on social media for the longest time. She broke her silence a while back, and her posts are mostly about inspiration and healing.
A day before his birthday, he shared a video of an infant suffering from a rare genetic disorder and asked his followers to help the child. However, he was trolled by his critics for his “image change attempt”. In the video, Riya is seen elaborating about the condition of the child (whose name is Janish) and appealing to people for help. She said that the child has a rare condition called SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy)-Type 1, which can be cured only with a medicine called Zolgensma, which costs around Rs. 16 crores.
However, his followers were not impressed. Describing the video as an image makeover attempt, many dubbed her the “empathy queen” and said it would not help her image.
After Sushant’s death in June 2020, Rhea was accused of abetment to suicide by the actor’s father. An FIR was registered against the actress, in which she was also accused of money laundering. The case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Riya, along with her family members, were interrogated. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) were also involved in the investigation of money laundering and drugs angle. Riya was in jail for about a month in a drug-related case.
