Research on both waves of corona: Report claims – fewer men were hospitalized than in the first wave, but the death toll in the hospital increased by 3.1%

The first and second wave of the corona epidemic has caused terrible devastation in the world including India. Fewer men were hospitalized in the second wave from February to May 11 than in the first wave in the country. However, the number of hospital deaths increased by 3.1% during this period.

This claim has been made in a study, which has come to the fore after researching the clinical profiles of patients hospitalized during both the waves. The study has been done by experts from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) and National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

Young people were most infected in the second wave

According to the study, youth have been infected the most in the second wave as compared to the first wave. However, 70% of those hospitalized in both waves were over the age of 40. This study was done only so that people could understand the difference between the first and second wave. All this data was taken from the National Clinical Registry. 41 hospitals across the country were included in this study.

In this study, the data of the first wave was taken from 1 September to 31 January 2020. Whereas the data for the second wave was taken between February 1 and May 11, 2021.
