Request of Masjid Committee Administration to remove temporary prayer place near Tehri Dam

New Tehri (Uttarakhand): A mosque committee has decided to remove a temporary prayer site near the Tehri Dam in the hill state of Uttarakhand.

Mohammad Usman, president of Wasi Jama Masjid Intejamiya Committee, said on Thursday that this has been done after the request of the administration.

“Though the matter is pending with the Minorities Commission, we have offered to remove the tin shed from Khandkhala on our own accord after requesting the administration to maintain communal harmony,” he said.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Laxmi Raj Chauhan, on his part, said that everyone should act with restraint in the matter.

He said that when the administration approached the members of the minority community with a request to remove the tin shed, they agreed to vacate the tourism department’s land in a day or two.

According to officials, the process of removing the shed has started.

The move comes days after some Hindu organizations claimed that the structure was built on government land and demanded its removal.

Recently, the matter reached the Minorities Commission after some Hindu organizations demanded his removal.

The Uttarakhand Tourism Department and Tehri Dam authorities had earlier issued several notices to remove the tin shed at Khandkhala.
