Republic Day Awards: J&K Police bags 115 Police Medals for Gallantry, tops the list

The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have won fewer Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) this year as compared to last year. Out of 189 PMGs, J&K Police has won 115, topping the list. No President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) has been awarded this year.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which got 68 PMG on Republic Day last year, has got 30 PMG this year. CRPF is deployed in J&K as well as in Naxal affected areas.

Similarly, the Border Security Force (BSF) got 2 PMGs this year. Last year, BSF was awarded 20 PMG.

But, forces like Sashastra Seema Bal and ITBP, which got two PMGs each in the last Republic Day, have got three PMGs respectively. Assam Rifles has not received any PMG this year as compared to last year.

Three ITBP personnel have been awarded PMG for the anti-Naxal operation in 2018.

The state police of Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh have got less or no PMG this year as compared to last year.

Last year, policemen from Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab were awarded PMG 5, 2, 3 respectively, but this year policemen from no state have been awarded PMG. Meanwhile, Punjab Police has not received PMG this year, while last year three Punjab Police personnel were awarded PMG. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Police had received eight PMGs last year, but this year only one jawan has been awarded PMGs.

Last year, a total of 17 Delhi Police personnel were awarded the PMG, but this year only three have been awarded.
