New Delhi: Preparations are underway for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations at Rajpath and the full dress rehearsal for the parade has also started. While the main attraction of the grand event on January 26 is the R-Day Parade, there will be some other interesting attractions for the visitors to celebrate the historic day.

According to an IANS report, visitors who arrived at the Rajpath here to watch Republic Day celebrations on January 26 (Wednesday) are all set to discover the boulevard in a “new look” as work on the government’s ambitious Central Vista project is underway. Is. running at high speed.

Rajpath’s new look on 26 January

  • The ceremonial boulevard will look more beautiful than before as the new Central Vista Avenue in the national capital gears up for the Republic Day celebrations.
  • The red sand path has been replaced by new footpaths on the Rajpath, after which 94,600 meters of walkable roads have been constructed.
  • 422 new stone benches have been installed and 16 bridges will be built over canals. Currently, some temporary bridges have been installed ahead of the Republic Day.
  • New sign boards will also be visible to the people coming to watch the Republic Day parade. A total of 114 modern sign boards have been installed on the Rajpath.
  • At the same time, 133 new light pillars will also be seen, due to which Rajpath is going to look more beautiful than before.
  • More than 900 lamp posts have been built on the Rajpath between Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate.
  • On the occasion of Republic Day, visitors will also see photographs of some lesser known freedom fighters at Rajpath, which have been created by over 500 artists. These pictures have been prepared in 10 scrolls of 75 meters.

Earlier, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri while talking to the media said: “Despite the Covid pandemic, almost all the work on this project has been completed. During the construction work, 25 trees were removed, 22 trees were removed, shifted to another place and three have been planted here.”

“There will also be a terraced garden for the tourists where people can come and sit. The greenery has been further enhanced. A total of 4,087 trees will be included,” the minister said.

The parking facility has been increased keeping in view the traffic around the street. Now 50 buses and 1,000 vehicles can be seated together.

There will also be four under passes in the avenue. A total of 162 dustbins will also be installed keeping in mind the cleanliness and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of the government.

The place is expected to attract huge crowds of tourists once the Covid restrictions are lifted, so stone benches have also been made for people to sit on.

Apart from this, complete arrangements have also been made for water drainage and power lines. A total of 880 electric manholes and 611 manholes have been made.

Work is going on on the Central Vista Project in a total of 85.3 hectares.

Along with the Parliament building, the residence of the Prime Minister and the Vice President is also being constructed in the project.

The project, announced in September 2019, envisages a new triangular parliament building with a seating capacity of 900 to 1,200 MPs.
