Traffic police records show that there were 311 road accidents in 2018, out of which 157 were fatal. In 2019, there were 349 road accidents, out of which 221 were fatal. There were 268 road accidents in 2020 out of which 158 were fatal.
There were over 120 road accidents in the first six months of 2021, of which 50 were fatal.
“After the resumption of industrial and commercial activities and re-opening of schools, the easing of covid restrictions have led to increased traffic congestion on the roads and this has led to frequent reports of road accidents and traffic jams. Regulation is very important.” said Ajay MahatoMembers of the organization Education Unemployed Tempo Driver Association called for a meeting under the chairmanship of ADC.
A traffic police sub-inspector said several motorists driving without wearing a Covid protection face mask during the peak of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 were also punished.
