On International Family Day (May 15), Zee Theater presents three richly layered plays that reflect the diverse emotions of joy, togetherness, loss, and untold anxiety that are part of most family units. ‘Rishton Ka Live Telecast’, ‘Maa Retire Hoti Hai’, and ‘Dak Ghar’ are three teleplays that portray different shades of family dynamics and will keep you hooked!

an overview

post office

Rabindranath Tagore’s poignant teleplay, ‘Dak Ghar’ is set in rural Bengal and explores the psyche of an orphaned boy, Amal, who is imprisoned in his adopted uncle’s house due to a terminal illness. His vivid imagination allows him to dream of a free life and he prefers to communicate with the outside world through a window. One day, he learns that Raja is opening a new ‘Dak Ghar’ or post office near his home and immediately wishes that he could meet Raja by becoming the postmaster. The teleplay sensitively shows that family comes in many forms and that we can form deep bonds even with those we are not related to. The teleplay is directed by National Award winning director Nagesh Kukunoor. The teleplay stars Krish Chhabria, Saurabh Goyal, Kumar Rajput, Kishore Chandra Srivastava and Anupriya Goenka. It will air on May 10 on Tata Play Theatre.

Live Telecast of Rishton

‘Rishton Ka Live Telecast’ is a slice of life exploring modern family dynamics and the growing generation gap between parents and children. When ‘Bekaar’ Sharma participates in the reality show, ‘Rishton Ka Live Telecast’, he becomes aware of issues that he had not addressed within the family. As the reality show progresses, each member of the family goes through a realization that changes them forever. Directed by Ishaan Trivedi, this light-hearted yet informative teleplay stars Akanksha Gade, Anjan Srivastava, Himani Shivpuri, Piyush Ranade and Tapasya Nayak. It will air on May 12 on Tata Play Theater

Mother has retired

The family drama, originally written by Marathi writer Ashok Patole, is about a woman, Sudha (Reema Lagoo), who decides to retire from her family duties after being ostracized by her children and husband for life. As soon as she decides not to do unpaid labor, everyone begins to realize her value and how important she is to keeping the family unit together. The teleplay is a powerful tribute to the millions of unsung housewives who work tirelessly without recognition, respect or appreciation. Directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay, “Maa Retire Hoti Hai” also stars Yatin Karyekar, Sachin Deshpande, Shweta Mahindale, Sanket Phatak, Manasi Naik, Rutuja Nagvekar and Sandesh Kulkarni. It will air on Airtel Theaters and Dish TV and d2h Theater Active on 21st May.
