State Education and Sports Minister Pargat Singh said that a decision on this would be taken in the cabinet meeting. Before Diwali, the central government reduced the excise on petrol by Rs 5 and on diesel by Rs 10.
He also appealed to the states to reduce the tax so that people can get cheaper petrol and diesel. This will not only make oil cheaper, but due to it the ever-increasing inflation will also be controlled.
Increased pressure from neighboring states, election is also a compulsion
The pressure of the decision of neighboring states on Punjab regarding expensive petrol and diesel has also increased. Himachal Pradesh and Haryana government has reduced VAT. Himachal has reduced VAT by Rs. After which petrol has become cheaper by Rs 12 and diesel by Rs 17. At the same time, VAT of petrol and diesel has also been reduced by Rs 7 in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Here too, petrol has become cheaper by Rs 12 and diesel by Rs 17.
There are elections in Punjab next year, in such a situation, the government can take a decision about giving big relief from them. Anyway, the Punjab CM Charanjit Channi-led government is in election mode. He has already waived electricity and sewerage bills. In such a situation, if there is no big relief, then it may have to bear the brunt of the elections.
