Redmi, a spun-off brand of Xiaomi, has launched the Redmi A1, an entry-level Android smartphone, in India. The smartphone comes as the most affordable offering from the company this year. While the Redmi A1 may not be directly related to Xiaomi‘s Mi A lineup of smartphones, the smartphone does offer a stock Android experience similar to Xiaomi’s Mi A series. The Redmi A1 comes with a price tag of Rs 6,499 for the lone 2GB+32GB storage configuration. It will be available to purchase on September 9 at 4 PM noon.

The Redmi A1 features a 6.52-inch HD+ display with a touch sampling rate of 120Hz and 400 nits of brightness. The display comes protected with scratch-resistant glass. The smartphone has a leather finish rear panel and splash-resistant coating. edmi A1 comes in three colourways: Light Blue, Classic Black and Light Green.
Under the hood, Mediatek Helio G22 chipset powers the smartphone. The chip comes paired with 2GB LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, that can be further expanded up to 512GB using a microSD card. Backing up the smartphone is a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support.
Like the Xiaomi’s Mi A series smartphones, the Redmi A1 runs stock Android. However, the Redmi A1 comes with Android 12 Go Edition, a toned-down version of Android 12 loaded with essential ‘Go’ edition apps.
As for the connectivity options, the Redmi A1 offers dual 4G VOLTE , Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS+GLONASS. The smartphone has a 3.5mm audio jack and top-firing speakers with FM radio pre-loaded.
