Realme GT Neo 2 first impressions review: Sleek display with great performance and super fast charging, but the camera disappoints

The Realme GT Neo 2 is the company’s latest premium offering in India. First launched in China, the smartphone competes with the likes of OnePlus 9R, i live x60 pro, Mi 11X, and much more, is making the affordable flagship fight even more fierce. right off the bat, realme gt neo 2 Comes with flagship-level specifications – a 120Hz AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, up to 12GB of RAM, stainless steel vapor cooling, and a capable triple rear camera (on paper). I’ve been using the Realme GT Neo 2 as my primary device for the past few days, and to mark the launch of the product, I’ll tell you my initial impressions of the smartphone to help you decide which Realme phone to buy. Whether GT Neo 2 is worth your Rs 31,999 or more.

So the smartphone comes with a very attractive packaging and just the box tells you that smartphone means serious business. We get the smartphone, a 65W charging brick with USB A to Type-C cable, and a silicone cover for the Realme GT Neo 2 along with all the paperwork. The smartphone comes in a nice looking black box with a carbon fiber-like pattern and yellow detailing to tell its Realme flagship. Holding the Realme GT Neo 2 for the first time feels like you’re holding a well-built, sturdy glass sandwich that’s surprisingly lighter than it seems at first glance.

Design

The Realme GT Neo 2 comes with a 6.62-inch flat hole-punch display with negligible bezels and a slight chin. While a curved screen looks more premium, a flat display is less prone to accidental touches. I personally prefer a flat screen, so that’s good. back panel of my true form The finish of the GT Neo 2 is interesting. We got the black color for our review, which looks like it has a matte finish when not light, but glows when exposed to light. Nice finish that will delight both types of users – those who prefer a matte and those who prefer a gradient-like finish. I personally liked it as it is not shiny and does not catch fingerprints like those glossy finish back panels.

The camera module is a chunky rectangle that makes the phone wobble on a flat surface. The two larger lenses are placed vertically in the camera module, and the third, smaller lens is placed to the right of the two larger lenses. The realme branding is subtle (thank god!) with a small “realme” tag on the bottom left corner of the back panel. The USB Type-C port is at the bottom along with the speaker grille. The power button is placed on the left side of the Realme GT Neo 2 and the volume rocker is on the right.

Display

The display is one of the things that impressed me the most about the Realme GT Neo 2. 120Hz refresh rate along with 600Hz touch response rate makes the experience super smooth. The adaptive refresh rate also seems to work fine, and scrolling is super slick on the Realme GT Neo 2. The display of Realme GT Neo 2 is also amazing in terms of resolution and brightness. It plays YouTube videos at up to 4K resolution and has a maximum brightness of 1,300 nits. Watching videos and playing games is a pleasant experience on the latest Realme flagships.

Where the display lags is color accuracy. Though it is a super bright and super smooth display, the detail and color accuracy is not the best. Overall, this is a great performance and on par with the competition, if not ahead.

performance and battery

Now, performance is where Realme is placing the biggest bet on the Realme GT Neo 2. Smartphone a. powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 The chipset is paired with 12GB of RAM (we got a 12GB RAM variant for our review), which is expandable up to 19GB via Realme’s RAM expansion technology that allows users to take up 7GB of free storage and convert it to expanded RAM. gives. like performance, performance of realme gt neo 2 Super smooth too. The smartphone showed no signs of slowing down throughout our testing. Note that I used realme gt neo 2 at full brightness and fixed at 120Hz for the most part of my testing and played some heavy games like battleground mobile india, Asphalt 9, and more and the smartphone did not give any problems. The smartphone is capable of running Battlegrounds Mobile India at max out settings with no signs of slowing down. The benchmark test of the Realme GT Neo 2 showed a single-core score of 1,014 and a multi-core score of 3,085.

Realme says that the Realme GT Neo 2 comes with an eight-layer cooling system that includes Diamond Thermal Gel and Stainless Steel Vapor Cooling technology. During my gaming session, the smartphone showed signs of overheating, but nothing significant. Good thermal control.

While I didn’t encounter any issues with the speed of the device, the user experience isn’t the best. Realme UI doesn’t make the Android experience smoother or easier. While it has improved a lot since the last time I used the Realme UI, it’s still not quite as good as stock Android or some decent launchers like OxygenOS. Bloatware is still very much present and controls are not smooth in some areas.

The battery of Realme GT Neo 2 is also good. During my usage, I charged the phone to 100 percent on Saturday, and used it at full brightness at 120Hz refresh rate along with playing demanding games like Battlegrounds Mobile India, and the smartphone still lasted for about 48 hours, approx. With a few hours the value of the juice is still there. Great battery backup.

The charging speed of Realme GT Neo 2 is also quite fast. The smartphone comes with Realme’s 65W fast charging technology. I charged the smartphone to 7 per cent around 2:48 pm and it was 100 per cent before 3:20 pm – that is under 40 minutes from 7 to 100 per cent!!

camera

The camera of Realme GT Neo 2 is average. The smartphone packs a triple rear camera consisting of a 64-megapixel primary shooter, a wide-angle lens, and a macro shooter. The camera takes nice, crisp pictures through its primary lens in well-lit environments.

However, the wide-angle shooter and macro shooter are disappointing and hinder the quality. In Macro mode, the Realme GT Neo 2 delivers decent detail of the subject, however, the pictures we clicked through the Macro mode had minor spots on the edges.

The portrait mode of the Realme GT Neo 2 is good and cuts edges with good accuracy, yet it’s not the best we’ve seen in this segment.

The camera of the Realme GT Neo 2 isn’t its strong suit, to put it more simply, and it’s not a deal breaker, at least for those who don’t prefer a smartphone camera when shopping. One thing that has always bothered me about most Realme smartphone cameras is the unnecessary AI overprocessing, and the Realme GT Neo 2 is no different.

Decision

While the first impressions of the smartphone have been good so far, the smartphone will be put to more extensive testing in the next few weeks. So far, the Realme GT Neo 2 has given me a reasonable flagship experience (barring the camera quality), given the way it looks, the way it performs. Is it worth your money? Most definitely. It offers everything the OnePlus 9R has to offer at a low price. A super sleek display, expandable RAM with fast performance and huge battery with very fast 65W charging is what most users want when they are looking for a flagship experience at non-flagship prices. However, if a great smartphone camera is your priority, then the Realme GT Neo 2 is not for you. The Realme UI also remains a chime in the armor of Realme which otherwise makes great smartphones. So that was our first impressions of the Realme GT Neo 2. We are still using the smartphone and will bring you a detailed long term review soon. Until then, make the Realme GT Neo 2 your top pick for an affordable flagship experience.
