Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad registered a historic record in his name by hitting seven consecutive sixes in an over in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022.

Shiva Singh of Uttar Pradesh came to bowl in the 49th over, but kept on wreaking havoc.

Gaikwad managed to hit seven sixes in a single over as Singh also bowled a no-ball. Not only this, Gaikwad also completed his double century and remained unbeaten on 220 off 159 balls which included 10 fours and 16 sixes. After achieving this huge feat, cricket fans immediately took advantage of the opportunity to congratulate the player and react to his innings. Here’s a look at some of the reactions:

Many fans praised Gaikwad fiercely. One of the Twitter users tweeted, “Ruturaj Gaikwad hits seven sixes in one over!!

yes you read that right

6,6,6,6,6,6 in the 49th over by Ruturaj Gaikwad and he completed a double century in the quarter-finals of Vijay Hazare.”

Gaikwad scored 42 runs in an over and as a result, he now also holds the record for most runs scored in a single over. Earlier, the record was held by Zimbabwe’s Elton Chigumbura, who scored 39 off Alauddin Babu in a Dhaka Premier Division match in 2013. Thanks to Gaikwad, Maharashtra finished with 330/5 in 50 overs.

On the other hand, the 43 runs that Shiva gave away are now the joint-highest in the history of List A cricket, equaling New Zealand’s Willem Ludic.

Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision seemed to have gone in their favor as Maharashtra lost early wickets. Ankit Rajput and Kartik Tyagi dismissed Rahul Tripathi and Satyajit Bachhav cheaply respectively. After 12.4 overs, Maharashtra’s score was 41/2. However, it was Gaikwad’s day as he piled on the Uttar Pradesh bowlers.
