Media across the world has covered the death of India’s Chief of Defense Staff General Rawat. At the same time, leaders and army chiefs of many countries have expressed grief.

Dawn mentions deployment on Kashmir and China border
Describing General Rawat as a friend of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani newspaper Dawn wrote that he was made the chief of the Indian Army, preferring two senior generals. General Rawat led the Indian Army along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on the Kashmir and China border.

Praising the general, the newspaper wrote – Rawat is credited with controlling the rebellion on the northeastern borders of India. He also led a military operation against separatists in neighboring Myanmar.

South China Morning Post – General’s death a setback for the Indian Army
Hong Kong’s leading newspaper South China Morning Post has written that, “India is mourning the death of its top general Bipin Rawat. What will be the effect of his departure on the Indian Army? The country’s top general was chosen by the Prime Minister himself and the Chief of Defense Staff. His death in a helicopter crash has come at such a difficult time when tensions have increased on the border between India and China.

Describing Rawat’s death as a setback for the Indian Army, the newspaper said, “This accident has also dealt a deep blow to the Modi government. There was a relationship of trust between Sarkar and Rawat. India would be in a vulnerable position to respond to any Chinese actions after his death, the way India reacted to China in Doklam in 2017 and in Ladakh last year.

Referring to the close relations between India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and General Rawat, the newspaper said, “Both had done good coordination in the strikes of the Air Force and Special Forces within Pakistan.”

BBC said- General Rawat was the military commander who inspired
Britain’s media organization BBC, describing the military commander who inspired General Rawat, has written that the image of 63-year-old General Rawat was that of a tough soldier and inspiring military commander. BBC writes that at times he also made such comments on which political controversies also took place. In its report, BBC has also mentioned about his training at the Army Command and General Staff College in Kansas, USA.

“In the 1980s, Rawat, as a colonel in the army, led his battalion in the face of confrontation along the Chinese border in Arunachal Pradesh,” the BBC report says. General Rawat had sent paratroopers of the Indian Army inside Myanmar in the year 2015 and campaigned against the separatists. This was the first campaign of Indian soldiers on foreign soil.

The New York Times said – the general made important changes in the army
The New York Times has said in its report that General Rawat, who was killed in the helicopter crash, had transformed the Indian Army fighting for change. The newspaper writes, “India’s CDS General Rawat, who is responsible for the coordination between the different branches of the Indian Army, has died at such a difficult time when the Indian Army is facing threats on two borders and the country’s sluggish economy. It’s also bearing the brunt.”

The newspaper writes that in view of the confrontation and tension with India’s rival Pakistan as well as China, about 10 thousand Indian soldiers are stationed on the high peaks of the Himalayas. This is the second winter when Indian soldiers have been stationed here in such large numbers.

Pakistan Army Chief’s tribute mentioned in Al Jazeera
International broadcaster Al Jazeera in its report referred to the tribute received by Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa on Rawat’s death. Al Jazeera has written that General Rawat had the confidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and was very close to him.

Al-Jazeera quoted experts as saying that the initiative taken by Rawat to modernize the Indian Army may now be put to an end. Rawat was given the responsibility of co-ordination between the three parts of the Indian Army – Army, Air Force and Navy.

US Embassy expressed grief over the death
Expressing grief over his death, the US Embassy in India has said that as the Chief of Defense Staff of India, he led a period of change in the history of the Indian Army. The embassy said in its statement that Rawat was a strong friend and ally of the US and that he increased military cooperation between the US and India in a big way.

Chinese ambassador paid tribute

Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong also expressed his deep sorrow over his death and said – My condolences are with all the family members of General Rawat.

Britain said – the death of a brave soldier
British Ambassador Alex Ellis expressed grief over the death of General Rawat, remembering him as a brave soldier and wise man.

Russia lost a very close friend

Russian Ambassador Nikolay Kudashev expressed grief over his death and said that India has lost its great patriot. Kudashev said that Russia has lost a very close friend who has always promoted our bilateral relations and special strategic partnership.

Australia said- General Rawat a great military leader
The High Commissioner of Australia to India and the French envoy have also expressed deep grief over the death of General Rawat. “We will remember General Rawat as a great military leader and flag bearer of Indo-French military relations,” France said in its statement.

People of Israel join India’s misery

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett expressed grief over the death of CDS, saying that General Rawat was a true friend of India. Israel’s Ambassador Naor Gilone said that the people of Israel are involved in this sorrow of India. At the same time, Bhutan’s President Lotay Tshering and Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba have also expressed deep grief over the death of General Rawat.
