RCB’s Twitter account restored after being hacked

The Twitter handle of Royal Challengers Bangalore has been restored after being hacked on Monday.

The account was compromised for a few hours before RCB’s technical team successfully gained access.

The incident caught attention after a tweet criticizing US carmaker Tesla CEO Elon Musk was sent from RCB’s Twitter handle. After regaining access to the account, RCB posted a tweet informing fans about the hacking.

He also expressed regret over the inappropriate post from his handle.

The team said they did not agree with the content of those tweets and have now removed them.

Earlier, a tweet allegedly sent by hackers criticized Musk for mining bitcoin and highlighted environmental concerns.

This was in response to a tweet by Musk.

The reply to RCB’s hacked handle read, “Tesla received $1.5bn in environmental subsidies in 2020, funded by the taxpayer. That changed and $1.5 billion was spent on bitcoin, which is mostly mined with electricity from coal.”

Meanwhile, RCB’s preparations for the second leg of the IPL are in full swing and skipper Virat Kohli and Mohammad Siraj have also landed in Dubai to begin their quarantine.

The two will serve a mandatory six-day quarantine before joining the rest of the RCB camp for practice. The Indian players, who were part of the Test squad in England, joined their respective franchises ahead of schedule after the fifth and final Test in Manchester was cancelled.

The second leg of IPL 14 is scheduled to begin from September 19 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai with the clash between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

RCB will resume their IPL 14 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on 20 September. The team is currently ranked third on the point-table and would be looking to end their wait for the IPL trophy for the first time ever.
