Raveena Tandon was once engaged to Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. The actors, who starred together in several films including Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) and Mohra (1994), reportedly got engaged in 1995 and dated for a few years. However, their engagement did not translate into a marriage for reasons best known to them. In an old video interview, Raveena got emotional while talking about her “broken engagement” with Akshay.
The video is currently going viral on Reddit, with fans praising Raveena for being “strong” enough to come out of the relationship. Talking about the lowest phase of her life, Raveena said, “The time my engagement was called off, I was jobless. I couldn’t see where I was going next. So I went on a long drive. I used to go because I used to have sleepless nights.”
She continued, “While driving one night, I suddenly saw the other side of slum-filled Mumbai. And looking at each slum it was as if God was saying to me, ‘Its life that you drive a Mercedes. You have two arms and legs. People call you beautiful. Food is served on your table. You would go back home, turn on your AC and go to sleep. But in those slums there was a drunkard beating his wife while A child was crying bitterly outside. Another woman was covering the jhuggi with plastic due to heavy rains.’ So I was like, ‘What’s not in my life? Why am I crying?'”
Raveena and Akshay have moved on after years. Raveena tied the knot with filmmaker Anil Thadani in 2004, while Akshay married Twinkle Khanna in 2001.
Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon fans were in for a big surprise recently as the two ex-lovers reunited at a fashion event in Mumbai earlier this month. After several videos of Akshay and Raveena sitting together and hugging went viral on social media, their fans went into a tizzy.
