Senator Jeff Merkley teamed up with Senator Bill Hegerty to introduce the resolution, which comes after the standoff between India and China at the LAC.
Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley said in a press statement that two US senators have introduced a bipartisan resolution affirming the US’s recognition of Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India.
In a rare bipartisan sign of unequivocal support to India, the resolution, introduced to support India’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity”, criticized China for “use of military force” to change the status quo at the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Condemns and other provocations, ANI reported.
Senator Jeff Merkle joined with Senator Bill Hegerty to introduce the resolution, which comes after a clash between India and China in the eastern sector along the LAC.

The resolution also supports India’s defense modernization and diversification, commends India’s development efforts in Arunachal Pradesh, commits to deepening US assistance in the region, and expresses support for the US-India bilateral partnership.
Senator Hegerty reportedly said, “At a time when China continues to pose grave and serious threats to a free and open Indo-Pacific, it is important for the United States to stand shoulder to shoulder with our strategic partners in the region.” Stand shoulder to shoulder with.” Said.

The resolution is significant as it is the first time that the US Senate has a detailed resolution of this nature echoing India’s position on Arunachal Pradesh and the widespread Chinese aggression along the LAC.
Furthermore, the resolution commends the Government of India for taking steps to defend itself against aggression and security threats from the People’s Republic of China.
The resolution reaffirms that the US recognizes the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and India’s Arunachal Pradesh and counters Beijing’s claim that Arunachal Pradesh is a Chinese territory.
