Ranveer Singh’s ‘Anniyaan’ in legal trouble! Producer Ravichandran will go to court against the director

A few months back director Shankar and producer Jayantilal Gada announced the remake of Ranveer Kapoor starrer ‘Anniyaan’. And it has run into trouble even before the film starts rolling as Tamil producer Oscar Ravichandran has taken legal action against Shankar and Jayantilal Gada over the remake of his film.

Ravichandran has already filed a complaint against Shankar with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) and believes the institution will support him.

Talking to ETimes, Ravichandran said, ‘I am going to court against Shankar and Jayantilal Gada. They can’t make the film without my consent because I have the copyright of the film and no one else has the right because I am the author of the film. Ravichandran further added that “he can say and claim anything, but everyone knows that ‘Anniyaan’ is my film and I have hired him to direct the film.”

He also said that the SIFCC is supporting him, and asked him to wait as he has spoken to the film association in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, responding to director Ravichandran’s complaint, Shankar had replied by saying that he had written the script for Anniyaan, a fact that is known to all.

The original hit action-thriller in Tamil Annayan stars Vikram, Sada, Prakash Raj and Vivek. The 2005 film was produced by Asar Ravichandran and directed by S Shankar.

Ravichandran, who produced the original Anniyaan starring South Indian superstar Vikram, learned about the remake of his film from social media.

He said, “I was surprised that the remake of the film was announced without my knowledge. This will be the first time that something like this has happened in our cinema.” Shankar and Gada announced in April 2021 that they would remake the film with Ranveer Singh.
