Ranji Trophy semi-final: Mumbai lead, first innings lead against Uttar Pradesh

Prithvi Shaw Scored a scintillating half-century to take Mumbai’s lead against Uttar Pradesh on the third day of the second semi-final at the Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru.

At stumps on Thursday, Mumbai were on top with a total lead of 346 runs as they ended the day for 133 for the loss of one wicket. Mumbai bundled out Uttar Pradesh for 180 after scoring 393 in the first innings and remained ahead in the game.

Shaw scored 64 runs in 71 balls to save Mumbai two days’ game. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Armaan Jaffer will resume the game on the first day with significant first innings lead.

Resuming on an overnight score of 25 for two, the UP batsmen could add just 155 runs as Tushar Deshpande (3/34), off-spinners Tanush Kotian (3/35) and Mohit Awasthi (3/39) took the lead in their Shared nine wickets in the middle. Mumbai

Dhawal Kulkarni (1/25) also took a wicket. The first UP batsman to be dismissed that day was captain Karan Sharma (27), who became Awasthi’s first victim.

Openers Madhav Kaushik (38) and Rinku Singh (16) tried to advance the innings but only managed to put up a 32-run stand for the fifth wicket before the former was dismissed by Kotian.

After that the batsmen of UP put the line of the pavilion. Rinku, Dhruv Jorel (2) and Saurabh Kumar (0) fell fast. Kotian trapped Rinku in front of the wickets, while Awasthi took two other dismissals.

Coming to bat at No. 8, Shivam Mavi (48) showed some late resistance, but by then it was too little and too late.

The day belonged to Kotian, who broke Mavi’s resistance as UP took a massive first innings lead of 213 runs.

There was more pain for UP as Shaw (64) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (35 not out) made an aggressive start in Mumbai’s second innings, adding 66 runs for the opening wicket.

While Shaw played in his usual aggressive style, Jaiswal played the second fiddle.

After Shaw was dismissed, Jaiswal and Armaan Jaffer (32 not out) continued to trouble the UP bowlers as Amol Majumdar’s coach had a leg up in the final.
