Sheldon Jackson, who started with an overall score of 27, scored 160 runs in 245 balls and decorated his innings with 23 fours and two sixes.

Sheldon Jackson and skipper Arpit Vasavada struck a century each as Saurashtra outclassed Karnataka by posting 364 for four in their first innings in reply to their opposition’s 407 on the third day of the Ranji Trophy semi-final here on Friday.

Jackson, who started with an overnight score of 27, scored 160 off 245 balls and laced his innings with 23 fours and two sixes, while Vasavada remained unbeaten on 112 (219 balls, 15×4) as the duo took the fourth wicket. Shared 232 runs for the wicket. Bring Saurashtra back into the competition.

Chirag Jani (19 not out) was giving company to Vasavada at the time of stumps.

Saurashtra trail Karnataka by just 43 runs with six wickets in hand and two full days of play left.

Resuming at 76 for 2 on the night, Saurashtra did not get off to a good start as they trapped Harvik Desai (33) lbw to Vasuki Kaushik inside five overs.

But then came the change when Jackson and Vasavada joined hands and played patiently to build a partnership.

Both displayed classical Test match temperament, defending the good balls but not hesitating to send the bad balls to the boundary.

It was utter frustration for the Karnataka bowlers as they failed to break partnerships or trouble the pair, who looked determined.

Off-spinner Krishnappa Gautam (1/68) finally broke the partnership in the 98th over by trapping Jackson in front of the wicket, but it was too late as Saurashtra had already squandered Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal’s hard work , who had scored 249 runs. More or less single-handedly taking his side past 400 in the first innings.

Brief scores: Karnataka 1st innings: 407 in 133.3 overs (Mayank Agarwal 249, Srinivas Sharath 66; Chetan Sakaria 3/73, Kushang Patel 3/109).

Saurashtra 1st Innings: 364 for 4 in 112 overs (Sheldon Jackson 160, Arpit Vasavada 112 batting; Vidwath Kaverappa 2/64).
