Ranji Trophy returns: BCCI releases India’s 2021-22 domestic calendar to host 2127 matches

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday released the Ranji Trophy schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The new season of India’s premier domestic cricket tournament will begin on September 21, 2021 and will be completed over a period of three months. 2127 games will be played in different age groups.

As per the announced schedule, the season will begin with the Senior Women’s One Day League followed by the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy. There will be 160 matches in the One Day League while the Challenger Trophy will have 4 matches.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) will start from 20 October while the Vijay Hazare Trophy (ODI) will start from 23 February 2022. The Ranji Trophy will start from November 16 and will continue till February 19. The 38 teams are divided into four groups – A, B, C and Plate.

“The BCCI is confident of hosting the home season with the health and safety of the players and everyone involved is paramount,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement on Saturday.

Significantly, the matches will run parallel to the T20 World Cup.
