Chopra’s 138 off 98 balls was the highlight of the day as Himachal quickly set about erasing the opponents’ first innings lead.

Prashant Chopra brought up his 12th first-class hundred as the Himachal Pradesh opener helped the hosts take a first-innings lead in their Ranji Trophy Group A match against Odisha on Wednesday.

The reliable opener’s 198-ball 138 was the highlight of the day as Himachal quickly set to work erasing the opponents’ first innings lead.

Starting the day at 91/2 in reply to Odisha’s first innings 191, Himachal had only Prashant to thank as they scored 258 even as visitors pacer Sunil Raul wreaked havoc. Wrecked

The 24-year-old Raul created a lot of trouble for the hosts with his poor line and length.

But Prashant, from where he had left off on 61 on Tuesday, kept on scoring and punished any loose ball by dispatching it for boundaries. The opener hit 18 fours and a six with a healthy strike rate of around 70 to boot.

The experienced batsman, in the process, completed his 4,000 first-class runs, even as Raul continued to lead the way, returning figures of 6/62.

Prashant was finally the victim of Raul’s ball, which got trapped in front of the wicket. His dismissal opened doors as none of the Himachal batsmen could face the skilful bowler with confidence.

Himachal’s wicket-keeper batsmen Praveen Thakur and Mayank Dagar were dismissed without opening the account while tail-enders Vaibhav Arora and Kanwar Abhinay were also dismissed cheaply. Soon, the hosts’ batting collapsed for 258 in 76.5 overs.

At stumps on the second day, Odisha were 29 for no loss in 13 overs, with Anurag Sarangi and Shantanu Mishra unbeaten on 14 and 15 respectively.
