Ranchi: Lawyers allegedly fired pistols to celebrate victory in Ranchi District Bar Association (RDBA) elections, the counting of which concluded on Wednesday morning.
Election committee member Arvind Singh said that some lawyers have accused the newly elected Joint Secretary (Administration) Pawan Ranjan Khatri. firing With his pistol to celebrate his victory in the election. “I had left the venue after the counting of votes was over. A lawyer, on the condition of anonymity, said that Khatri fired from a friend’s licensed pistol. “It was not his pistol, but his friend’s which he had taken out to celebrate the victory,” he said.
Khatri vehemently denied the allegations, saying he was giving interviews to media persons along with other winning candidates. He said, ‘It could be a conspiracy of my opponents to defame me. Supervisor Mrityunjay Srivastava said he would consult fellow observer Parmeshwar Mandal to take steps to ascertain the truth.
In the results, Shambhu Prasad Agrawal was re-elected president, while Sanjay Kumar Vidrohi and Mukesh Kumar Kesari were elected secretary and treasurer of RDBA respectively.
The counting of office bearers, which started on Tuesday, ended at around 6.30 am on Wednesday. Agarwal, who was re-elected for the eighth time, got 889 votes compared to 524 votes for runner-up Arbind Kumar Mitra. The rebel got 766 votes. For the post of treasurer, Kesari got 715 votes, while Pritanshu Kumar Singh got 476 votes.
