The 39-year-old actor said when director Karan Malhotra narrated the script of “Shamshera”, he was blown away by the filmmaker’s larger-than-life vision.

Ranbir told PTI in an interview here, “I want to do new content, engaging, original and entertaining stories. And ‘Shamshera’ ticks all the boxes. It celebrates cinema. It’s aspirational, entertaining and out of life. is big.”

The actor said he is keen to work with Malhotra, best known for the 2012 films “Agneepath” and “Brothers” (2015). He said, “It was an opportunity that I did not get before. But I did not come with the intention that I want to do something different. The film just fell in my lap.”

“Shamshera”, starring Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, is set in the 1800s and tells the story of a dacoit tribe fighting for their rights and independence from the British.

Without divulging details about the film, Ranbir said, “Shamshera is a leader in his true form and glory. He is someone people can see and feel safe. On the other hand, Balli is a reluctant leader.”

The actor believes that time zones and setting may change, but the protagonist’s objective remains largely the same in every story.

“If you start with ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ and work down to ‘Thor’, the intent of the hero will always be the same. The hero is someone you can see, whom you can relate to or what you aspire to be.”

But valor is not always about saving the world, he said. He said, “It’s not just about saving the world but it can also be an act of generosity or kindness. It can be some brainstorming that transforms you or the world around you.”

After “Shamshera” and “Brahmastra…”, Ranbir has Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Animal” and Luv Ranjan’s yet-untitled film in the pipeline.

‘Shamshera’ is set to release in theaters on July 22.
