The only Muslim makeup artist in Sangam city’s oldest Patharchatti Ramleela Samiti, who has also worked in Anupam Kher starrer Laila Majnu, knows that her work in Ramleela is not just about glamour.
Associated with the Ramlila Samiti for more than two decades, when he would play the roles of Parashurama and Kevat, Hameed (45) said, “As I have played the roles of Parashuram, Kevat and Sugriva, I understand the importance of makeup in Ramlila. . It is much more than just making artists beautiful,” he said.
“We start work at least four hours before Ramleela and watch the cast till the show is over. Its purpose is not to thin the hair or dye it in paint, but to bring the characters to life. Our work gets hectic when there are multiple characters on stage at a time and the deadline gets tight,” said Hameed.
