Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais on Wednesday expressed concern over the economic condition of farmers in the state and stressed on the need to increase production and productivity in the agriculture sector. Addressing a two-day conference on ‘Ratio and Share of Agriculture and Rural Development in Inclusive Economic Prosperity’, Bais said organic and natural farming would be useful for this purpose.

He also called for promoting small scale industries and rural tourism. Also said that more incentives should be given to achieve the goal of rural development. Recalling the rapid progress made in the country in the agriculture sector since independence, he said that innovation played a remarkable role and appreciated the policies of the government. He said that the development of the nations of the world is possible only after the development of the agriculture sector. The development of industries also depends on the agriculture sector. The Governor said, to make India a developed nation, we have to take agricultural development along with it… Today when we talk about self-reliance, it is more important to make the rural economy self-reliant.

The agriculture and rural development sectors have an important role to play in making the country a five trillion dollar economy. Inclusive agriculture is production and management, which will be possible when all the stakeholders contribute responsibly to achieve the development goal. Today agriculture startups have immense opportunities for the youth as it can help in connecting the farmers with the market, he said, adding that adding digital technology will go a long way in connecting the farmers’ products to the markets.
