Ramdas Athawale Frowns Over Tie-up Between Eknath Shinde Faction of Shiv Sena and Kawade’s PRP

Union minister and RPI(A) chief Ramdas Athawale on Sunday expressed displeasure over Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde faction forging an alliance with Jogendra Kawade-led People’s Republican Party (PRP) in Maharashtra without consulting ‘Mahayuti’ partners.

He said that all other stakeholders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—the Shinde camp and the Republican Party of India The (Athawale) faction should have been consulted before the alliance.

“Prof Jogendra Kanade is our good friend and we have worked together, but Chief Minister Eknath Shinde should have consulted us before forging an alliance with him. New parties are welcome in ‘Mahayuti’ (Grand Alliance), but without consulting us And it is not right to include anyone without making a direct announcement.

The Dalit leader said he was not sure whether the BJP was consulted before finalizing the alliance.

The politics of both Kavde and Athawale is centered around Dalits in Maharashtra.

The Union Minister said that he would speak to Chief Minister Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the issue.

Last week, the Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena announced an alliance with Kawade, a former Lok Sabha MP and ex-MLC.

Notably, the alliance was formed at a time when talks were on between the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction of the Shiv Sena and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) led by Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar.

Ramdas Athawale’s faction is already in alliance with the BJP.

Kavade, the founder and president of the People’s Republican Party, is one of the leading activists of the Ambedkarite movement.

The RPI, which has its roots in the Scheduled Castes Federation led by BR Ambedkar, has several factions.
