Rakhi Sawant never misses out on grabbing media headlines. Being the controversial queen of the industry, Rakhi is again making headlines after she lodged an FIR against her husband Adil Khan Durrani. Adil was arrested yesterday on charges of assault and has now been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Adil Khan Durrani, a businessman who harassed the 41-year-old actor for dowry, was brought to the Oshiwara police station in suburban Mumbai for questioning and was later arrested, they said. According to the police officer, the actress lodged an FIR (First Information Report) against her husband late on Monday night for allegedly assaulting, abusing and taking money and jewelery from their flat in Oshiwara without her knowledge.
On Tuesday, the police added Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections related to dowry harassment and unnatural sex in the FIR. Quoting his statement to the police, the official said Sawant came in contact with Durrani in January 2022 and the two opened a joint business account. According to the officer, Sawant told the police that without her knowledge, Durrani had withdrawn over Rs 1.5 crore from the account in June to buy a car, but she did not object as he had promised to marry her. Later, Durrani allegedly assaulted the former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant twice, following which Durrani asked for a non-cognizable offense to be registered against him, he added.
In case of non-cognizable offence, the police cannot arrest the accused without warrant and cannot start investigation without the permission of the court. The official said that according to Sawant, Durrani threatened her more than once that he would throw acid on her face or kill her in a road accident. He said Sawant has also accused Durrani of pressurizing him to offer prayers.
On Sunday night, Sawant discovered that Rs 5 lakh in cash and his mother’s jewelery worth Rs 2.5 lakh were missing from his cupboard. The officer said that thereafter he came to know from the watchman of his building that Durrani had visited the flat in his absence. Sawant approached the Oshiwara police on Monday night, following which an FIR was registered against Durrani under IPC sections 406 (breach of trust) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt).
