Amid the ongoing impasse in parliament, the opposition has indicated it will toughen its position and plans to step up its offensive against the government over the Pegasus espionage issue. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will chair a meeting of opposition parties over breakfast at Constitution Club today to chalk out a joint strategy on the Pegasus espionage issue.

The meeting is being organized to build unity among the opposition ranks on the issue. All opposition MPs and floor leaders of various parties have been invited to the meeting.

According to reports, opposition leaders from 17 parties from both the houses will meet over breakfast to discuss their next course of action. Rahul’s breakfast invitation has been sent to NCP, Shiv Sena, TMC, Aam Aadmi Party, CPI, CPM, RJD, IUML, RSP, DMK, Samajwadi Party, National Conference, KCM, VCK and others. Notably, TMC has skipped all the meetings called by Rahul Gandhi till now.

Rahul Gandhi’s invitation to breakfast assumes significance as it is seen as part of his conscious efforts to involve non-NDA leaders and lead the front.

The opposition is demanding a discussion in Parliament on the Pegasus dispute and its leaders are giving adjournment notices daily. The government is saying the opposition is making a “non-issue” and the IT minister has already replied in both houses of parliament.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday and sought his cooperation to end the impasse in Parliament.

Amid continuous protests by opposition parties over Pegasus since the Monsoon session of Parliament began on July 19, both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have failed to do anything significant except to pass a few bills.
