The Thar Desert, a popular tourist destination because of the national parks and historical forts and palaces, has now found its place in promoting popular water activities and the niche segment of golf tourism.

Many stakeholders of the tourism industry say that the future of golf tourism in the state is bright as the attractiveness of the sport is high across the globe and setting up of infrastructure for golf will add another feather to the cap of Rajasthan, the land of diversity, culture and hospitality. Will go The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) seeking suggestions from interested parties regarding the development and operation of the golf course.

Seeing the high potential of the segment, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced in the state budget for 2023-24 that his government would develop international golf courses at five major tourist destinations including Mount Abu (Sirohi), Jodhpur and Udaipur. For this, RTDC has been appointed as the nodal agency.

An official said, “We have issued an EOI seeking responses from interested firms by April 24. Based on their suggestions on the maintenance and operation of the golf course, technical parameters will be assessed and tenders will be floated later. ” EOI has also been issued for water activities at Nevta Dam, Kanota Dam (both in Jaipur) and Dam Baretha (Bharatpur) to promote adventure tourism.

Tour operator Sanjay Kaushik said the arrival of golfers in tourist destination towns would give a boost to the tourism industry in the state.
