Rajasthan doctor suicide: Two BJP leaders arrested for abetting harassment

Jaipur: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and another person were arrested by the Rajasthan Police on Thursday in Dausa district on charges of extortion and abetment to suicide by a woman doctor.

According to reports, the victim Dr. Archana Sharma had ended her life by complaining of harassment after a case of murder was registered by the police following the death of a pregnant woman at his clinic.

Rajasthan BJP secretary Jitendra Gothwal and another person named Ram Manohar have been booked under IPC sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 384 and 388 (extortion).

However, the BJP leader denied the allegations leveled against him and said that he has been falsely implicated.

“Police had come late Wednesday night from my residence in Jaipur to arrest me. A false case has been registered against me under IPC 306 for abetting Dr. Archana Sharma’s suicide. It was for sending train ticket to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. revenge.” Gothwal tweeted.

On Sunday, Gothwal had booked a train ticket for Priyanka Gandhi and asked her to take cognizance of the rape complaint against the Congress MLA’s son.

Rajasthan gynecologist commits suicide

The doctor was terminated by hanging inside a hospital room on March 29 after an FIR was lodged against her at Lalsot police station after the pregnant woman’s family staged a protest outside the hospital alleging negligence.

The gynecologist also left a one-page suicide note saying that she did not commit any mistake and did not kill anyone.

“I love my husband and kids very much. Please don’t disturb my husband and kids after my death. I didn’t do any mistake and didn’t kill anyone. PPH is a serious complication, it bothers doctors so much Stop. My death may prove my innocence,” the suicide note read.

“Please, don’t disturb innocent doctors,” the letter said.

Soon after Archana’s death, her husband released a video message alleging that she was horrified by the murder charges against him and claimed that senior BJP leaders were behind it.

The victim’s husband also claimed that the state BJP secretary was present when the patient’s family was protesting after the patient’s death on Tuesday.

Private Hospitals, Nursing Homes Stop Services

After Dr Archana’s death, several private hospitals and nursing homes have suspended all routine services across the state and demanded strict and immediate action against the culprits.

Speaking to PTI, Dr Vijay Kapoor, secretary of a union representing private hospitals and nursing homes, said all routine work, including OPD services and surgeries, is suspended across the state.

Taking immediate action in the matter, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot removed District SP Anil Kumar, suspended Lalsot SHO Ankesh Kumar and granted waiting order (APO) status to Lalsot DSP Shankar Lal.

Meanwhile, Jaipur Divisional Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Yadav has been entrusted with the administrative investigation into the matter.
