In Ratnagiri and Raigad, where the Mumbai-Goa highway was closed due to water-logging, heavy rains in Igatpuri’s Kasara Ghat pushed rocks and washed away railway tracks. As a result, rail traffic on Central Railway from Titwala to Igatpuri and from Ambernath to Lonavala remained closed for hours.

Central Railway officials said that 33 trains have been diverted due to heavy rains in Mumbai. 51 has been short terminated. And 48 have been cancelled. Routing of 14 trains has been reduced.

Locals were seen using boats to travel from one place to another. Heavy waterlogging has occurred in many parts of Mumbai due to rain since late last night.

Chiplun, about 240 km from Mumbai, is the most affected city in the state. The rescue operation is going on here. The rescue team is taking the stranded people to safer places. The Mumbai-Goa highway has also been closed due to severe floods in the city. It is being told that late last night a dam along the Vashishti river got washed away last night, after which the water started moving towards the city.

In the cities, the water had drowned till the doors of shops and houses.

2 thousand houses submerged in Akola
In Akola, just three to four hours of rain has filled almost all the river drains of the district. Nearly 2000 houses were submerged. In Akola’s Phuleshwar, Shastri Nagar and Nutan Nagar, 4 to 5 feet of water entered people’s houses. Thankfully there was no damage to property. Standing crops of farmers in rural areas have been ruined.

Chief Minister instructed to intensify the rescue
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reviewed the situation in the worst-affected coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Raigad. Thackeray has asked officials to remain alert and monitor the level of the overflowing rivers and evacuate residents to safer places. He also urged the local people to take all necessary precautions.

9 teams of NDRF engaged in rescue along with SDRF
Amidst this horrific situation, the Chief Minister of the state Uddhav Thackeray has engaged the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) team for the rescue. At the same time, NDRF teams are also engaged in relief and rescue work in the flood-hit areas of the state. A team of 35 officers is engaged in the rescue operation. The 9 teams of NDRF include 4 in Mumbai and one each in Thane and Palghar districts. One team is in Chiplun. Two teams have also been sent to Kolhapur.
