Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the ministry is planning to improve the back-end infrastructure of the passenger reservation system

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Friday said that the Railways is planning to increase its ticket issuance capacity from 25,000 to 2.25 lakh per minute and inquiries from four lakh to 40 lakh per minute.

Addressing a press conference here, the minister also said that a target has been set to lay new railway tracks for a distance of 7,000 km in the financial year 2023-24.

“We are planning to improve the back-end infrastructure of the passenger reservation system. Currently the ticketing capacity is around 25,000 tickets per minute. The target is to increase this to 2.25 lakh per minute.

“The capacity to attend inquiries will also be increased from four lakh per minute to 40 lakh per minute,” Vaishnav said.

He also announced that “Jan Suvidha” convenience stores would be set up at 2,000 railway stations across the country, which would be open round the clock.

The target of laying railway tracks for a distance of 4,500 km in 2022-23 (12 km per day) has already been achieved, the minister said, adding, “Before 2014, it used to be four km per day. Railways has set a target of laying new rail tracks for a distance of 7,000 kms next year.
