Railways, highways ministries to start capex from April – Times of India

New Delhi: The railways and highways ministries have been gearing up for a daily capital expenditure of Rs 900 crore since April to address the huge expenditure on infrastructure building and setting up their homes.
The budgetary support for capital expenditure for both the sectors is estimated to be over Rs 3.2 lakh crore, which is about 43% of the total estimate for all sectors. On top of this, the Railways has been allowed to raise another Rs 1 lakh crore from the market for other ventures including dedicated freight corridors and bullet trains. Similarly, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) can raise around Rs 25,000 crore from innovative financing such as InvIT and securitization of future tolls.
Keeping in view the tough target, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnava All the General Managers and Chief Administrative Officers responsible for the construction projects have been directed to prepare the bidding documents so that they can start inviting bids at the earliest.
