The ICF aims to finish the prototype rakes by the beginning of the 2022-23 financial year and start production of four to five rakes of train sets from September 2022.
The factory has produced 2,136 coaches so far this year. These include 162 coaches (136 mainline coaches and 26 air-conditioned DEMUs for Sri Lanka Railways) for export.
Mittal lauded the ICF for maintaining the production levels reasonably high despite the pandemic restrictions and material supply constraints.
He also appreciated the efforts being made by the factory for commissioning the new prototype rake of Vande Bharat Express and assured assistance from Railway Board.
ICF General Manager AK Aggarwal and other officials were present.
