New Delhi: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday condoled the death of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK. The West Bengal Chief Minister also assured the singer’s family of necessary formalities and necessary assistance for his last rites.
Notably, singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, who passed away on Tuesday evening, fell ill while performing at an event in Kolkata and was brought to the CMRI hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Kolkata Police has registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the sudden death of the singer.
KK’s body will be handed over to the family after the postmortem. He was only 54 years old.

BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda also condoled the singer’s death and said that KK will be remembered for this versatile music. Babul Supriyo, Kamal Haasan, Ali Zafar share grief of countless KK fans
Former Union minister and recently elected Trinamool Congress MLA Babul Supriyo spoke from his heart as he paid tribute to KK, who met with his untimely death in Kolkata on Tuesday, May 31: “The best people of the music industry One of the… one of the best voices we’ve ever had… #KK’s sudden passing so untimely is so shocking and devastating to deal with a reality… Rest in Peace My Friend.”
Superstar Kamal Haasan, whose film `Vikram` is scheduled to release on June 3, tweeted in Tamil: “Shocking news of the untimely death of Krishnakumar Kunnath aka KK, who entertained fans by singing in multiple languages. My condolences. Family, friends and fans who lost him.”
The shock was felt across the border too, and Pakistani singer Ali Zafar expressed the sentiments of millions when he took to social media to share his condolences: “Shocked by the passing of two amazing artists @iSidhuMooseWala and @K_K_Pal I am. Life is so unpredictable. May his soul rest in peace and the family muster the strength to get through this difficult time.”
Singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan said he was “shocked” and “devastated” by the news. He tweeted: “Just can’t take it…kk how can you go on like this? Love you dude…rest in peace.” Mahadevan signed with the line that would now define KK’s life and untimely death: ‘Hum rahe ya na rahein yaad aayenge ye pal’.
Filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee wrote on Facebook: “In a state of total shock. Met him for the first time last month and felt like we’ve known each other for years. The chatter just doesn’t stop. And I was so impressed with Gulzar saab. See his love for him. He said that he forayed into the film world with ‘Chhor Aaye Hum’ and sang it as a tribute. Farewell, my newest friend. Will miss you. I wish we had more sessions with music and food and at the cinema.”
Singer and composer Shekhar Ravjiani tweeted: “Still processing the grief… Loss of a divine human being… Love you my brother… You have brought this world with your infectious smile, your divine voice and yours. Have made a better place. Beautiful soul. ‘Kya yaar… chhodke chala gaya tu… tu aashiqui, tu roshni’.”
Their parting words were from the popular song ‘Jhankar Beats’ picturized on Sanjay Suri, sung by KK along with Vishal-Shekhar.
Actor Emraan Hashmi mourned: “A voice and talent like no other. They don’t make him like him anymore. Working on the songs he sang was more special than ever. You will always be in our hearts KK And will live forever through your songs. RIP legend KK.”

One of the most versatile singers in the Indian film industry, KK has recorded songs in several languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali. He is known for songs like “Zindagi Do Pal Ki” from the film Kites, “Aankhon Mein Teri” from the film Om Shanti Om and “Khuda Jaane” from the film Bachna Ae Haseeno, “Tadap Tadap” from the film. I gave my heart, my love. Every child of the 90s will always remember KK for the album’s title tracks ‘Pal’ and ‘Yaaron’, which gave friendship goals to most school kids.
