Rahul Gandhi’s court appearance: Reached Surat’s magistrate court to record statement in defamation case; Made controversial remarks on PM Modi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reached Surat’s magistrate court to record his statement in a defamation case. BJP MLA from Surat, Purnesh Modi had done this case against Rahul. The matter is related to a statement made by Rahul Gandhi before the elections in 2019. Rahul had said in a public meeting in Karnataka on 13th April 2019 that Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi… how is the common surname of all thieves Modi?

BJP MLA from Surat, Purnesh Modi had filed a petition against Rahul. A week ago, Surat Chief Judicial Magistrate AN Dave had directed Rahul to be present on June 24 to record the final statement.

Accused of defaming Modi community
Purnesh had filed a complaint against Rahul in April 2019 under sections 499 and 500 of the IPC. The MLA from Surat West seat had alleged in his complaint that while addressing an election rally in 2019, Rahul had defamed the entire Modi community by saying that why do all thieves have Modi in their names?
