Congress leader Rahul Gandhi responds to BJP leaders during the Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting over his remarks on Indian democracy during his recent visit to London. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for External Affairs on India’s G20 chairmanship.

During the meeting, some BJP leaders raised the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Indian democracy in London. Rahul Gandhi, who was present in the meeting, replied to him saying that he did not make any such statement.

Rahul Gandhi said that he did not talk about interference of one country in another and said that he talked about a businessman on whom the government did not defend his allegations.

Earlier, Jaishankar had posted a group photo of the participants on Twitter.

“Chairs the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on External Affairs on India’s G20 Chairmanship. Thanks to the members for their active participation,” he tweeted.

In a tweet, Tharoor said the meeting was somewhat marred by “unnecessarily politicizing” the discussion by some members and Gandhi gave him a “strong response”.

Tharoor said, “A fine meeting of the Consultative Committee on Foreign Affairs today on India’s foreign policy objectives at the G-20 was overshadowed by some members unnecessarily politicizing the discussion. @RahulGandhi gave him a firm reply and this Ended with a cordial group photo.”
