Rahul Gandhi holds meeting with Uttarakhand leaders, fix on selection of state president

Uttarakhand Assembly Election 2022: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday discussed with senior party leaders about the preparations for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi first held a meeting with former Chief Minister Harish Rawat and State Congress Committee President Pritam Singh.

He then held separate meetings with former state president Kishor Upadhyay and party national secretaries Muhammad Nizamuddin and Prakash Joshi.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi also met Congress state in-charge Devendra Yadav, Ganesh Godiyal, Navprabhat and Bhuvan Kapri. The names of Ganesh Godiyal, Navprabhat, Bhuvan Kapri and Kishor Upadhyay are included among the leaders who are considered as contenders for the new president of the State Congress Committee.

A senior Congress leader said: “The purpose of this meeting of Rahul Gandhi is to review the election preparations and formulate a strategy. He has sought their opinion from all the leaders on the steps to be taken by the Congress to defeat the BJP in the upcoming elections. “

No decision on selection of state president

If sources are to be believed, the state president has not been selected yet because both Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh want their close leader to be given the command of Uttarakhand Congress.

Senior Congress leader Indira Hridayesh passed away recently, leaving the legislature party leader’s post vacant. If Pritam Singh is given the command of the leader of the legislature party, a Brahmin leader can be elected as the President of the Pradesh Congress Committee.

Former Uttarakhand Congress chief minister Harish Rawat is believed to be the head of the party’s election campaign committee. However, his supporters are lobbying to present him as the Chief Minister.

When asked about the Chief Minister, Devendra Yadav had said on Monday, “The decision on the candidature of the Chief Minister will be taken in time. We do not want to make Uttarakhand a laboratory of changing Chief Ministers like the BJP. Solution that gives a vision for the state.”

Assembly elections are proposed in Uttarakhand in February-March next year.
