Rahul Gandhi Has 18 Pending Criminal Cases Including POCSO

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday submitted his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad constituency from where he serves as a sitting Member of Parliament. According to the declaration, the Congress leader holds a whopping investment worth Rs 20 crore including Rs 4.3 crore invested in the stock market, mutual fund deposits totaling Rs 3.81 crore, and Rs 26.25 lakh in a bank account.

Criminal Cases

He faces charges in 18 criminal cases against him including the pending POCSO case. Over the past five years, he has amassed a fortune valued at Rs 6 crore.

In one of the 18 cases, a Gujarat court found Gandhi guilty of making the ‘Modi surname’ remark. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court intervened and suspended the conviction.

Rahul Gandhi has disclosed joint ownership of agricultural land with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Delhi’s Mehrauli. Additionally, he possesses office space in Gurugram valued at Rs 11 crore.

The 53-year-old politician also disclosed possessing Rs 55,000 in cash and reported a total income of Rs 1,02,78,680 (Rs 1.02 crore) for the financial year 2022-23.

Rahul Gandhi also holds gold bonds valued at Rs 15.2 lakh. Additionally, he has investments in various avenues including National Savings Schemes, Postal Savings, and insurance policies, amounting to Rs 61.52 lakh.

According to the affidavit, the jewellery assets of the former Congress chief amount to Rs 4.2 lakh. His movable assets have a total value of Rs 9.24 crore, whereas the value of his immovable property is approximately Rs 11.14 crore. Combining both movable and immovable assets, his total assets exceed Rs 20 crore, as per the details provided with his nomination. Rahul Gandhi also carries a liability of approximately Rs 49.7 lakh.

The Congress leader submitted his nomination following a large-scale roadshow in his constituency, accompanied by senior leaders such as his sister Priyanka Gandhi and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal.

In Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi is poised to contest against senior CPI leader Annie Raja and BJP’s Kerala president K Surendran. He previously secured victory in the same seat in 2019 with a substantial margin of over four lakh votes.

The polling in Kerala to elect MPs for its 20 Lok Sabha seats will take place in a single phase on April 26. Currently, in the outgoing House, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) holds 19 seats out of the total allocated to the state.
