Once again the threat of VVIP culture has been seen in Pune, Maharashtra. Several cars were driven and parked on a synthetic race track meant for athletes at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, ie Balwadi Stadium, here. NCP chief Sharad Pawar was also in one of these cars. It is also forbidden to wear shoes other than spikes shoes on the race track. In such a situation, driving many cars on it can cause major damage to the track. The damage assessment is currently being done.

On 26 June there was an event of the International Sports University on this track. During this, many big leaders including Sharad Pawar, Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, Aditya Thackeray had reached. The leaders parked their cars on the race track itself. Some people uploaded its pictures on social media, after which the matter caught fire.

Union Minister Smriti Irani said in social media, ‘Due to a meeting held at the Sports Complex in Maharashtra, the athletics track built at a cost of crores got lost. Instead of strengthening the facilities of the players, the Sports Minister of Maharashtra is himself engaged in disturbing the system.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said that sports facilities are less in our country. In such a situation, all sports centers need proper care.

Maharashtra government’s clarification in this matter
Maharashtra Sports Commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria has given a clarification regarding the parking of VVIP cars. He said that Sharad Pawar had a leg injury, that is why permission was given to park his car there. So that they do not have to walk much. Unfortunately the vehicles were parked on the race track. For this they apologize. Along with this, he assured that such incident will not happen again.

BJP’s demand – the matter should be investigated
Local BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole said that Mahavikas Aghadi leaders should apologize for this negligence. Also, a fair investigation should be done in this matter.

Many major international events have taken place in this stadium.

The National Games in 1994 and the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008 were held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex. In 2019, Khelo India Youth Games was also started from here. Apart from this, many big matches of football, kabaddi and cricket have been held here. This athletics stadium has a seating capacity of 11,000 people. Equipped with flood lights, the athletics track here is of 8 lanes. The qualifying round of football for the 2012 London Olympics was played at this complex.
