The son of a businessman of Talaq Mahal area was to be married on Tuesday to a girl from Jajmau area. A band also accompanied the procession and there were fireworks. “When the procession reached the wedding venue, the DJ-band started playing and fireworks broke out which upset Maulana Mushtaq Mushahidi, the city Qazi, and he refused to get married. The matter reached senior members of the area, who apologized to the groom’s family and the guests dancing to DJ music,” said sources.
Qazi said, “Band-DJ and fireworks are un-Islamic, besides it is a waste of money. After apologizing for hours, I agreed to do the nikah. Wherever such an incident happens, I will not get married.”
To recall, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board had issued a new nikahnama for Muslims in the country which banned the series of ceremonies in March 2021.
The 11-point nikahnama prohibited the Muslim community from performing ‘manjha’ (turmeric ceremony) and other “un-Islamic” traditions such as wedding processions, DJs, dance, fireworks and dowry ceremonies.
