Amritsar: Five members of a family, including three young children, working as bonded laborers were rescued Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) after raiding a dairy farm with the help of civil and police administration officials on Thursday.
give details Dinesh Kumar , Assistant Project Officer, victim aid, BBA said that the raid was carried out on a dairy located “64 Fort“, near Fatehpur, Amritsar on the directions of National Human Rights Commission.
Those rescued include Jasvir Singh (23), his wife Baljit Kaur (22), son Gurjit Singh, 6, Fateh Singh, 2 daughters. Reet Kaur, 4.
Surprisingly, Jasvir Singh was found tied with chains.
Dinesh Kumar said, “This is the first time I have seen someone chained up which is not only amazing but disgusting.”

He said that Jasvir Singh with his wife Baljit Kaur and three children has been living in the dairy for the last five years. The family was made to live in two rooms in the dairy and were not allowed to send their children to school.
Giving information, he said that Jasveer used to work in Mohinder Singh’s dairy as a ‘bonded labour’, who in the year 2016 gave Jasvir an advance of Rs 10,000 and was assured a monthly salary of Rs 3,000.
The daily chores of the family included looking after and milking 110 cows, cleaning the cattle shed, among other household chores. The family’s livelihood was from 6 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon and then from 4 in the evening to midnight.
From 3 pm to 4 pm, which was considered a time of rest, Jasvir was tied with shackles and his family was not allowed to leave the dairy whenever he had to go out.
“Being servants on call, Jasvir and his wife had to make themselves available to the employer round the clock,” Dinesh said.
The worst part was that when Jasvir fell ill, the employer used to deduct Rs 300 per day from his modest salary of Rs 3,000 per month.
He said that the alleged accused had absconded during the raid on his dairy and the district administration is yet to register an FIR.
Dinesh said that the BBA had also saved a young boy working in the dairy.
