Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court On Thursday directed that the controversial Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh should not be carried Punjab On production warrant in Punjab sacrilege case

“HC has ordered that the petitioner (Gurmeet Ram Rahim) will not be taken from Rohtak FaridkotInstead if the SIT wants to probe him, they can go to Rohtak jail to interrogate him in connection with the case,” said Kanika Ahuja, the lawyer representing the accused.
HC Justice Manoj Bajaj passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by the Dera chief, who is currently lodged in Rohtak jail after his conviction in several rape and murder cases.

The Dera chief, in his plea, had sought a direction to release the arresting officer on bail immediately in the event of his arrest in connection with the FIR number 63 registered on June 2, 2015, under sections 380, 295-A. A local court in Faridkot had on October 25 passed an order allowing the application filed by the SIT of Punjab Police in the sacrilege case related to the theft of a beer from a gurdwara in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village in Faridkot and the court issued a hearing. In his petition, the Dera chief mainly argued that with the change in the head of the state government in Punjab, after more than a year and four months, the Punjab Police SIT had issued a production warrant to arrest him in the case. An application was made for .
The SIT, headed by DIG Ranbir Singh Khattra, had filed a challan in the court on July 6, 2020, naming the Dera chief as a conspirator. However, in January this year, the High Court had ordered the formation of a new SIT. The same new SIT has now demanded the presence of Dera chief on production warrant in Faridkot.
However, the counsel representing the Punjab government argued that the Dera chief is the main accused in the case and he should be interrogated in the matter.
