The development comes after the Tarn Taran district police on Sunday arrested drug supplier Pishora Singh from a petrol pump near Patti Mor with 250 grams of opium and Rs 1 lakh in cash.

The Punjab Police has arrested Faridkot DSP Lakhvir Singh for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a drug supplier for not being named in the FIR registered under the NDPS Act in Tarn Taran. The developments came to light after Tarn Taran district police on Sunday arrested drug supplier Pishora Singh from a petrol pump near Patti Mor with 250 grams of opium and Rs 1 lakh in cash. Pishora, a resident of Model Boprai village in Tarn Taran, was wanted in the case in which his associate Surjit Singh of Mari Megha village was arrested with 900 grams of opium.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in an official statement that during investigation by Tarn Taran police, Surjeet revealed that he had bought opium from Pishora, which is the main drug supplier. “When the police started raids to arrest him, Pishora tried to bribe the in-charge of Patti crime investigation agency, offering Rs 7-8 lakh through Assistant Sub-Inspector Rashpal Singh, in this case In lieu of not arresting and naming him but the in-charge refused. Later, Pishora met Rashpal Singh’s brother Hira Singh through his acquaintance Nishan Singh of Sito village in Tarn Taran, and together they contacted the DSP. Kiya, who also happens to be Hira Singh’s cousin.

The DSP made a settlement of Rs 10 lakh to help the drug supplier, the DGP said, adding that the accused DSP directed Heera to keep the amount with him. The DGP said that on the disclosure of Pishora Singh, the police also recovered Rs 9.97 lakh from Heera Singh’s house. Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab government to make the state corruption free, Yadav said that no police officer or officer found indulging in corruption would be spared.
