PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 42,750 crore, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and the PGIMER satellite center at Ferozepur.

The PMO said the 669-km-long Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will be developed at a cost of around Rs 39,500 crore, and will halve the travel time from Delhi to Amritsar and Delhi to Katra.

The projects include four-laning of the Amritsar-Una section, construction of a wide-gauge railway line between Mukerian and Talwar, and setting up of two new medical institutions at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

Modi’s visit assumes significance as elections are nearing the state, and the BJP has joined forces with the Akali group led by former chief ministers Amarinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.
